A concern for new players coming from the larger scale games is understanding the design concepts found in Epic Armageddon. After playing at 28mm, the effect of an individual is represented in far more detail than at 6mm. This section describes the concept and abstraction applied in the Horus Heresy Supplement to better assist players in understanding the unit characteristics and the effects that we are trying to represent. These concepts form a base line for heresy era unit development.
Example 1 - Tactical Support Squad
Legion Tactical Support Squads during the Horus Heresy could carry a vast array of weapons that carved great swathes through the enemy ranks, ranging from Flamers and Volkite Chargers, to Melta and Plasma Weapons. In 28mm, a support squad can readily remove an opposing squad, even two opposing squads.

At 6mm, this is represented by their potential to kill two targets in cover 50% of the time. That equates to ten enemy infantry destroyed at range. In a close fire fight, it can result in the destruction of two enemy vehicles or two enemy squads. The individual weapons are not described in the unit characteristics, but we have allocated a number of possible hits against certain types of targets to represent the variety of weapons you might see in a Support Squad. This helps keep the game simple and moving at a relatively quick pace.
Example 2 - Heavy Support Squad
Legion Heavy Support Squads during the Horus Heresy were equipped with
